Overview

 

The Software Quality Engineer is responsible for ensuring the quality and integrity of data-driven applications, including Power BI reports, dashboards, web-based data tools, and ELT (Extract, Load, Transform) processes. This role involves designing and executing test strategies to validate data accuracy, visual consistency, and system performance across analytics platforms. The engineer works independently and collaborates closely with development and data engineering teams to drive quality throughout the analytics lifecycle.

Responsibilities

 

  • Designs and executes test plans for Power BI reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to ensure accuracy, usability, and alignment with business requirements.
  • Validates data pipelines and ELT processes by verifying data transformations, load completeness, and source-to-target mappings.
  • Develops and maintains test documentation, including test cases, test scripts, and data validation checklists for analytics and web-based data applications.
  • Collaborates with data engineers, report developers, and business analysts to understand data models, KPIs, and reporting logic.
  • Performs regression, integration, and exploratory testing on analytics platforms and web-based data tools.
  • Uses SQL and other data querying tools to validate data integrity across multiple databases and environments.
  • Identifies, logs, and tracks defects related to data quality, report rendering, and performance issues.
  • Participates in Agile ceremonies, project planning sessions, and stakeholder reviews to align testing efforts with delivery timelines.
  • Recommends improvements to reporting standards, data validation frameworks, and test automation strategies.
  • Ensures compliance with data governance, privacy, and security standards during testing activities.

Qualifications

 

  • 2–3 years of experience in software or data quality assurance, preferably with a focus on BI/reporting platforms.
  • Proficiency in validating Power BI reports, DAX expressions, and data visualizations.
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases and data warehouses.
  • Familiarity with ELT/ETL tools and concepts, including data lineage and transformation logic.
  • Experience testing web-based data applications and APIs is a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple testing efforts simultaneously.

At Brightstar, we consider a wide range of factors in determining compensation, including background, skills, experience, and work location. These factors can cause your compensation to vary. The estimated starting compensation range is $59,795 - $122,400. The actual pay offered may end up being higher or lower. The Company will comply with all local pay requirements and collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.
