Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Director of Software Engineering to lead the engineering organization responsible for the development, scalability, and long-term evolution of one of business-critical products within BrightStar’s lottery technology portfolio.
This role combines strategic technology leadership, people management, product delivery ownership, and strong cross-functional collaboration. The successful candidate will be accountable for building and leading high-performing engineering teams, driving predictable delivery of the product roadmap, ensuring technical excellence, and partnering closely with Product, Architecture, Delivery, Operations, Security, and senior business stakeholders.
Responsibilities

Lead the end-to-end engineering organization, including development, QA, DevOps, and operationsDefine and execute engineering strategy aligned with product, business, and growth objectives

Build, develop, and manage high-performing engineering teams, covering organizational design, hiring, workforce planning, performance, and career growth

Partner with Product and business stakeholders to deliver scalable, customer-focused solutions

Oversee delivery execution, release governance, prioritization, dependencies, and continuous improvement of engineering performance

Drive engineering excellence through metrics, quality improvement, incident prevention, reliability, and operational effectivenessLead architecture, engineering standards, and cloud-native platform evolution, balancing innovation, scalability, technical debt, and stability

Ensure secure, resilient, maintainable, observable, and compliant systems

Promote modern engineering practices, including DevOps, CI/CD, automated testing, and observability

Collaborate with Architecture, Security, Cloud, Operations, and global teams to ensure alignment and successful execution

Serve as a trusted engineering partner to leadership, Product, Operations, Sales, and customers, effectively communicating plans, risks, trade-offs, and progress

Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, resource allocation, and management of external partners and vendors

Foster an inclusive, accountable, high-performance engineering culture
Qualifications
- 10–15+ years of software engineering experience, including leadership within product-driven organizations
- 5+ years leading engineering managers, tech leads, and multi-team organizations
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or equivalent experience (Master’s/MBA preferred)
- Proven track record in senior engineering leadership roles delivering scalable, secure, and reliable software products
- Strong expertise in modern architecture, Agile delivery, DevOps, CI/CD, cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), and distributed systems
- Experience operating in complex product environments, including SaaS, fintech, gaming/lottery, e-commerce, payments, or enterprise software
- Excellent leadership, organizational design, decision-making, communication, and executive stakeholder management skills
- Based in Warsaw, Poland, with hybrid on-site presence required

This information reflects Brightstar Lottery’s good-faith estimate of compensation for this position at the time of publication. Actual compensation will be determined in accordance with the applicable collective agreement and internal compensation policies. Factors that we consider include, but are not limited to, role, career level, performance, skills, level of expertise, experience, location, market competitiveness, and internal equity. The estimated starting compensation range is 352,304 zł – 542,006 zł. The Company will comply with all local pay requirements and collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.
In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for an annual performance-based bonus with a set target (20% of salary) aligned with individual and company performance. Eligibility and payout may be prorated based on date of hire and service during the performance period or sales commission.

This position is governed by collective bargaining agreement, which regulates the main terms and conditions of employment, including minimum salary levels, classification, working hours, leave, and other employment rights.
