Overview
The Proposal Editor collaborates with proposal managers, writers, and graphic designers to build continuity of style, content, and voice while ensuring accurate technical and sales messaging has been incorporated throughout the proposals. The Proposal Editor must have an understanding of both the technical side of writing and the ability to edit while preserving the author’s meaning and voice. The Proposal Editor edits proposal text for clarity, grammar/punctuation, content and language consistency, tone, structure, and flow. The Proposal Editor will develop standard style conventions, on a project-by-project basis, to maintain consistency throughout technical proposal sections. In addition, the Proposal Editor works to ensure content remains compliant and follows RFP specifications.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with proposal managers, writers, designers, and publishing specialists to produce high-quality, persuasive, and compliant business proposals.
- Edit and proofread proposal content for grammar, punctuation, clarity, consistency, tone, structure, and flow while preserving the original author’s intent and voice.
- Ensure proposal narratives maintain a consistent style, terminology, and messaging across all sections and contributors.
- Review proposal content to confirm accuracy of technical and sales messaging and alignment with win themes and client requirements.
- Interpret and apply RFP, RFQ, and RFI requirements to ensure full compliance, including formatting, structure, and submission guidelines.
- Develop and apply project-specific style conventions and editorial standards to maintain consistency throughout proposal documents.
- Identify gaps, redundancies, and inconsistencies in content and recommend improvements to strengthen clarity and competitiveness.
- Manage multiple proposals simultaneously while meeting tight deadlines in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing to proposal templates, style guides, and editorial best practices.
- Leverage performance-enabling tools and technologies to streamline the editing process and improve efficiency and quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, Technical Writing, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience editing complex business, technical, or professional documents, preferably within a proposal, consulting, or professional services environment.
- Exceptional command of written English, including grammar, punctuation, syntax, and editorial best practices.
- Strong understanding of proposal development processes and compliance requirements for RFPs and similar solicitations.
- Demonstrated ability to edit for clarity and consistency while maintaining multiple author voices and perspectives.
- High attention to detail with the ability to spot errors, inconsistencies, and compliance issues quickly and accurately.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word and other document collaboration tools; familiarity with proposal management or publishing tools is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and thrive in a deadline-driven, team-oriented environment.

At Brightstar, we consider a wide range of factors in determining compensation, including background, skills, experience, and work location. These factors can cause your compensation to vary. The estimated starting compensation range is $43,680 - $46,800. The actual pay offered may end up being higher or lower. The Company will comply with all local pay requirements and collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.
Base pay is only one part of our Total Rewards program. Sales roles may be eligible for commission payments, while other roles are eligible for discretionary bonuses.
