Overview

 

The Telecommunications Technician installs, maintains, and repairs telecommunications equipment and infrastructure, including wiring, cabling, and various devices. This role is focused on the physical installation and hands-on maintenance of telecom systems, ensuring they operate effectively and reliably. The technician troubleshoots hardware and software problems, performs diagnostic tests, and provides support to end-users and customers. This position requires mechanical aptitude, physical dexterity, and strong problem-solving skills.

 

As a key technical resource for Field Services, this role supports a broad range of lottery operations throughout California, including retailer locations, district offices, headquarters, communications infrastructure, and special events.

Responsibilities

 

Field Support

  • Perform complex installations, including structured cabling and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve terminal, peripheral, communications, hardware, and software issues independently.
  • Provide backup support for firmware and application field distributions.
  • Support high-volume retailer locations and escalated technical issues.
  • Deliver technical assistance for complex operational issues requiring immediate resolution.

 

CSL Headquarters Support

  • Provide CAT Lab support.
  • Troubleshoot terminals, peripherals, communications systems, and related equipment.

 

District Office Support

  • Provide terminal and peripheral support.
  • Troubleshoot communications and connectivity issues.

 

Special Events Support

  • Serve as the primary point of contact between Brightstar and CSL for numerous high-profile special events throughout the year.
  • Provide technical planning, communications coordination, onsite technical support, and rapid issue resolution.
  • Ensure uninterrupted lottery operations during special event activities.

 

Communications Support

  • Process and manage LOC ID requests from HNS.
  • Troubleshoot Ventus, HNS, VSAT, Broadband, and other communication circuits.
  • Support retailer communication connectivity issues.
  • Maintain and monitor statewide communication inventories.
  • Produce and manage monthly communications counts and reporting.

 

Compliance and Maintenance

  • Ensure compliance with safety, technical, and operational standards during installations and maintenance activities.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and preventative maintenance to maintain system reliability and performance.

Qualifications

 

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills for hardware, software, communications, and network-related issues.
  • Knowledge of structured cabling systems and telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Competence in using telecommunications testing and diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and respond effectively to urgent operational issues.
  • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while supporting statewide operations and cross-functional teams.

 

Education and Experience

  • High school degree or GED equivalent required.  An associate degree or technical certification in telecommunications, electronics, information technology, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 to 4 years of related telecommunications, technical field support, or communications infrastructure experience.
  • Experience troubleshooting telecommunications circuits, terminals, peripherals, and related communications equipment preferred.
  • Experience supporting statewide field operations, large customer environments, or mission-critical systems.

 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, and install telecommunications equipment and related materials.
  • Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments, including retail, warehouse, office, and field locations.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, and use of hand tools.
  • Ability to travel as needed to provide onsite support and technical assistance.

At Brightstar, we consider a wide range of factors in determining compensation, including background, skills, experience, and work location. These factors can cause your compensation to vary. The estimated starting compensation range is $43,992 - $85,134. The actual pay offered may end up being higher or lower. The Company will comply with all local pay requirements and collective bargaining agreements, where applicable.

 

Base pay is only one part of our Total Rewards program.  Sales roles may be eligible for commission payments, while other roles are eligible for discretionary bonuses.  In addition, we offer employees a 401(k) Savings Plan with Company contributions, health, dental, and vision insurance, life, accident, and disability insurance, tuition reimbursement, paid time off, wellness programs, and identity theft insurance.
